Celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Day

USC’s Visions and Voices initiative is partnering with the School of Cinematic Arts and LA Skins Fest to present a Native American short film showcase on Oct. 10 as part of Indigenous Peoples’ Day. The event is being held at the Norris Cinema Theatre at 7 p.m. with free admission and will feature a screening of several short films followed by a conversation with filmmakers. LA Skins Fest is a film festival that promotes Native American films and artists with regular groups, meeting and workshops.

Other Los Angeles events include a celebration at Grand Park and the lighting of City Hall in turquoise in honor of the day. A 2017 ordinance in Los Angeles declared the second Monday in October as Indigenous Peoples’ Day, replacing Columbus Day as a holiday on the city calendar.
